I can't spend money

by Inthefastlane45 @ 23/07/2008 - 19.04:04

My old school gave me a $100 visa card for being the valedictorian there. At first I went to H&M and bought $50 worth of stuff. Then I went to borders book store and got a book on israeli-arab war/six days war. I usually don't buy books because I only read them once, but I am thinking of getting a degree in political science or history(in addition to my business degree) and I'm interested in that part of the world.

I now have $30 left and am going to end up going back to H&M to finish it off. I could buy gas, but buying gas with money I got for good grades seems kind of depressing.

On my way home from school yesterday I passed by a house where a man was sitting outside on top of one luggage case, and then had many more around him. I assumed he got kicked out, but the scene did look funny as it reminded me of the stereotypical scene in movies when somebody is kicked out of the house.

Update

by Inthefastlane45 @ 17/06/2008 - 19.14:48

I finally got my hair cut short today. It is significant as I never had short hair before. I actually really like it, I knew I was going to like it before it was even finished.

I was sitting in my pre-calc class and just decided I would finally get it cut short after class, and I did. It makes me look older in my opinion, which I like.

Although the woman cutting my hair and her boss seemed to be angry/annoyed at each other at one point and I was hoping she wouldn't take it out on my hair lol

I do have some good school news though.

First off, I found out that I am the valedictorian for my graduating high school class. But I cannot make the ceremony in Philadelphia(five hour drive), so I they asked me to write a speech and somebody will read it for me. Luckily they wanted a very brief 3 minute speech. After I e-mailed it int he principal called the next day saying he thought it was great and congratulated me.

Then, I also made the deans list at the community college. I got a nice littler certificate in the mail lol. They are having a reception type thing done in the city, but it is only an hour long and it is an hour drive so I decided that wasn't worth it. Plus, I have no 'business casual' clothes..it is all just casual.

Music on MTV?

by Inthefastlane45 @ 12/06/2008 - 16.15:53

If there is one good thing from getting up early for my morning class, it is that I can turn on MTV or VH1 and they are actually playing music videos(the whole video too). Although it is 9-10 in the morning, when not many are watching TV.

I was never a big coldplay fan, but I am likeing their two new songs..one from the itunes or ipod commerical, and the other has a video which is played often:

Viva La Vida:

and, Violet Hill:

New computer contd

by Inthefastlane45 @ 11/06/2008 - 16.37:54

It took about four hours for me to get everything hooked up. I didn't even have to call the internet company, all I had to do was put the wire into the new computer and turn it on, instantly connected.

The new moniter is widescreen, which is nice I suppose.

I am not a windows vista and internet explorer 7 user..I'm not too impressed with either--they just seem like everything is changed but not with any real benefits. But I haven't had any problems with either.

I also had to buy microsoft office(student) 2007..which includes word, excel, powerpoint and onenote. I only used word so far but I liked it. It took be 5 minutes to find the word count tool, and then I realized that it is always shown in the bottom of the document.

I will say I believe that microsoft office was a complete rip-off--$150.

New Computer

by Inthefastlane45 @ 07/06/2008 - 11.22:42

Since I am all but ofically graduated, I got my graduation present--money--early.

Although technically most of the money is going for a new computer since ours is getting outdated.

I am 99% sure that I'm getting an HP. They seem to be reasonably cheap and always get good reviews from other customers(that I've seen/heard).

I was going to get a laptop and get wireless internet, but the whole deal seems complicated and will probably end up adding on extra fees so I just decided to get another desktop.

Yes, for someone who has used a computer for nearly 10 years and done a lot of my education over the computer, I am pretty bad at understanding all of the terms/mechanics.

I am actually uploading all my pictures I saved to my computer onto my flickr, so then I won't have to transfer them between computers because I have no idea how haha.

POTC, summer, sleep

by Inthefastlane45 @ 01/06/2008 - 23.40:38

I decided I should start June off right by blogging right away.

This weekend I seen the second pirates of the caribbean movie, which I thought was very good, just as much as the first(which is rare). Only I hate how the ending is, with no real closure. I guess that is how they get you to go and see the next one though.

The summer semester has started, and since it is broken into two very short six-week semester, it goes at a very fast pace. The only good thing is that I have actually got into a decent sleep schedule during the week where I fall asleep before 1, and get up at 09:00, a full eight hours.

It kind of worries me that I need eight hours to feel good. I can function just fine on any amount of sleep(or none at all), but I only feel rested all day when I get eight. And eventually I will have to get less when I go to earlier classes/get a job. Although it probably doesn't help that I don't drink coffee.

Update

by Inthefastlane45 @ 27/05/2008 - 19.38:53

First time writing with the new 'subtitle and 'summary' parts..where do they show them anyway?

The university is having orientation(july 7th) for people like me who are undecided. Actually, I am undecided because I want to transfer after a semester, but I guess that doesn't matter.

Although I don't mind going(good way to see the campus), it starts between 8-900 which means I have to leave around 6:30-7. Then it lasts all day until the evening--rush hour. It costs $65(!) and includes lunch and dinner, which I am not excited about because I will most likely not like the food.

Furthermore, they won't let us leave, I would of much rather of just went to a fast-food place for lunch but I guess they will 'lock us in'.

They also decided to make up a schedule of classes for me...without even speaking to me. I don't know if other universities do this, but I never heard of it and hate that they do it. At the orientation I will have to meet with an advisor and change my classes, because I am capable of picking my own clases.
----

I actually watched Eurovision(via internet as they do not air it here) for the first time last weekend. It was pretty entertaining. I heard a lot about the 'polical voting' and didn't think it would be as obvious as it was. I didn't think Russia's entry was that great, but oh well..just music.

Random Updates

by Inthefastlane45 @ 14/05/2008 - 23.46:33

With a lot of luck I managed to pull off all A's in my algebra, macroeconomics, and english composition classes, keeping my 4.0 for at least one more semester. I was completely surprised because I was set in my mind that I was getting one, maybe even two B's.

What kept me in the A percentages in English was I got a 38/40 on the last paper I wrote. Which is great, but he professor always gives comments on what we did wrong..he didn't write anything! He just wrote at the end it was good, ect, ect..but if there was nothing wrong with it, why did I get points taken off?

Anyway, the first of the two summer semesters starts monday, where I will be taking pre-calc at the college mondays thru thursdays, and intro. to psychology online. I got my psychology book and read through it a bit, it seems interesting..but then again I am going for a business degree.

And I just checked about my french 2 class, the only class I really want to take, which starts in july, and so far 7 people signed up. Eight are needed for the class to be kept "alive" and not cancelled like it was for the spring. I will be very angry if it cancels since I will then have to wait until next spring to take the course.

Last saturday I went to the university campus for math placement tests(required). The hour and 10 minute drive is not so bad, just a bit boring. The test went well, the first half was all algebra stuff that I just learned, and the next half was all pre-calc stuff that I will be learning soon. Although the campus itself is nice and clean(it is not a dump lol), I don't like it that much because it is a bit in the country/woods. I grew up in the country and have been around trees/wilderness all my life and am done with it. I cannot wait until the spring when I will go to the main campus in the city. Also, small campuses tend to play up the 'everyone is friendly and knows each other' quality, which is fine. But I really do not like places where everyone knows each other, I honestly would much rather walk through the street on campus not knowing anyone around me.

Most people think the small campus/community is great, but usually they are the ones that have never lived in a small town where everyone actually does know everyone else...and their business.

Funny commerical, from the NL I think

Primary

by Inthefastlane45 @ 22/04/2008 - 23.55:32

I forgot to mention(how could I forget? ads have been everywhere)that the pennsylvania primary, which seemed like it was the actual election, was today and it seems Hilary has won...no big surprise.

I guess it will be good for democrats if hilary actually wins since she is more conservative. This country is way too conservative in my opinion..but that is a different story.

I did see an obama supporter today. On the corner of a large suburban intersection an older man was sitting on a lawn chair with two small american flags and a large sign reading "Obama for president"

That reminds me of one question asked at a previous debate, the person questioned why obama didn't wear an american flag. I thought it was a ridiculous and irrelevant question and turned the debate off after that. So now you have to wear a flag all the time to show you like your country?
