End of semester

by Inthefastlane45 @ 28/11/2007 - 13.10:49

Well my first semester at community college is coming to an end. No more french class....for four weeks. French 2 starts janurary 28th.

One thing I won't miss is the girl who sits infront of me.

Everytime she comes in she takes off her coat and sits down. It is like a wave of perfume drowning me in whatever she is wearing.

The professor also told a story about when she was in France, and explained groundhogs day, they laughed at her and thought she was joking.

But then again, if I didn't know about it and somebody told me, I wouldn't believe them either. It is oddest holiday..and even though I live under two hours from the place where the groundhog lives, I have never been there on feb. 2nd.

tests advising

by Inthefastlane45 @ 19/11/2007 - 16.08:29

They didn't have any openings until the 4th(of december) to take the placement tests. I really didn't think they would be that filled up but what can I do. I will just hope the classes I want will still have some open spots.
That same day I will have to go back down in the evening for my next-to-last french class of the semester.
Then, on the 10th I will have to go to downtown to return books, and buy the new ones.

Lots of gas will be used..I just hope it won't be snowing.

Anyway, the bill for the tuition and books will be a nice christmas present to my parents haha.

Good news

by Inthefastlane45 @ 16/11/2007 - 13.42:14

The latest person I e-mailed at the college finally(did some work) and found my paperwork and said that it is okay and I can go ahead with the registration process! Now I just need to schdule the placement tests and then finally register my classes.

ahhh.

I called 'tempie' at the community college today..and didin't even get past "I have a dual enrollment question) before she said hold please and transfered me to another person. Which I don't know who because nobody ever picked up..for the third time! So now I sent an e-mail to another person who works in registration. I really don't care anymore if they would rather have people call.

Energy conservation and school issues

by Inthefastlane45 @ 14/11/2007 - 17.19:57

First the bad news so I can get(typing) it out of the way. I e-mailed a woman trying to understand why I haven't been sent a letter saying that I am enrolled for the spring semester. First e-mail must of completely went through her head because her response was worthless. Second e-mail she tells me that I have to get ANOTHER form and do the whole process of mailing it to my school in philidelphia..and then they mail it back to the college. She also said she would be out of the office the next two days(more like she probably is worried that I will keep e-mailing her) and that I can call her co-worker Tempie..which I completely mis-red as temple at first. But I'll call this tempie tomarrow, hopefuly she will be more helpful as I do not want to have to do this whole proces AGAIN.

That was much longer then I intended it to be..

but onto my own little good news:

I used to always leave the computer on all day. Even though I am usually only on it morning/early afternoon and then later at night. So a month or so ago I decided to turn it off mid-afternoon and not turn it on again until night when I usually get back on it. Also, we are in the process of changing from the older ligh bulbs to the newer/better energy efficient light bulbs. Bottom line is the elecrib bill went down almost 25%! At the same time period last year we used 800kwh(kilowats per hour) but now we just around 550kwh..pretty good decrease I would say.

Random ramblings

by Inthefastlane45 @ 13/11/2007 - 02.28:39

I really do not like this time of the year. Getting darker early just makes me tired/depressed. I do not think I could handle Stockholm(or any other nothern city) during the winter..of course the summer could make up for it.

French class is later today. I'm happy that it will not be raining for my drive home(rain 3/4 the last weeks). I didn't have to study that much as it was just the 'a' and 'de' phrases and questions. Of course the french have 4 ways to ask a question..because, really..who needs just one or two?

The teacher is still a bit akward. She nods a lot(instead of just once or twice..more like six or seven). And she just gives off an akward vibe. She is very nice though...and definitly knows what she is talking about.

I have to get my high school to send my first quarter grades to PITT..then I can finally hear back if I've been accepted.(maybe something by early december?)

And, the community college should of got my registration paper..but I have not recieved a paper yet(it's been a couple weeks). I am giving them until wednesday..then I will call and probably annoy whoever is lucky enough to answer the phone becuase I will make them check to see if they revieved my form. I hate doing these things through the mail because it takes so long, and usually something gets 'lost'. More like the idiotic person in the mailroom just didn't feel like working so they ignored it. That might be abit rude, but I am fustrated that it takes so long.

French vs. German

by Inthefastlane45 @ 12/11/2007 - 18.48:18

I'm into my third month of learning both language. Funny how they are(geographicaly) so close yet very different.

I find that German is much easier..easier to pronounce, listen to, and the grammar is easier since it is similiar to english.

French is harder. I have a difficult time understanding it when I listen to it. It is also harder to pronounce for me, and the grammar is different(like other latin languages). And it would just be the end of the world if a word ended in a vowl and the next word started in one. Ironically I like french better.

Weird though because everybody says that German is much harder. I think that is because they only seen the language and not many people actually study it. Or maybe it is just me that thinks it is easier.

Some people...not so smart.

Seven people at my dads work got fired because they were caught watching pornography on their work computers at work.

I mean, how stupid is that? They surely have computers at home..why would they feel the need to do that at work?
--------------------------

It is freezing(!) here. There is even talk of flurries tomarrow night.

One of the reasons I hate cold so much is that I like wearing t-shirts, and hate long sleeve shirts, except the button down ones. But they are too light to wear in the winter anyway.

It is november though, I will just have to accept that winter is just about here.
