I finally went to take my placemnt tests last tuesday. They were schduled at 10 and I left at 9:10, to get there a little early(i'm very conscience about being on time). Usually it only takes me 35 minutes to get the college, but this day due to the bad roads, it took me the entire 50 minutes. Then, just because I am that lucky, there were no parking spaces..I had to go half-way around the building to find one..and there were only around 5-10 left(there are hundreds of parking spaces). So I finally go in and am a little late, but luckily they didn't start the test for another 5-10 minutes.
The test was alright, I did reading, writing(editing an already written essay) and math. After I finished, I printed out my report and went and waited to meet with an advisor to discuss my options I guess. I did well in reading(95) and english(87), which meant I can take english-101(which is what I wanted) and did not need to take any 'developmental' classes.
In math, I did well on the pre-algebra part, but didn't do well on the regular algebra. With my results I could only go into algebra fundementals(090), which does not transfer to university, I would need the next level up; 108. So the advisor sys to come tomarrow to take a different written math test.
The roads were horrible the next day so I reschduled for thursday. It again took me about 40-50 minutes to get there, but not as bad as tuesday. I got there and after waiting 15 minutes took a written test. I ended up doing much better, and was able to take math the whole way up to pre-calc and/or trig. After I took the test I met with the same advisor, and mentioned about I was considering doing a dual degree at PITT where I could get a degree from the school of arts and sciences(ex: economics) plus a degree from their college of business(ex: finance). I was surprised in that he actually called down to PITT and after speaking to 5 people finally got an answer.
108 would transfer to both, but in busniess I would take analytical methods and then business calc. In the regular BS/BA degree, I would take 108 then pre-calc and trig, and then calc 1. Since 108 would work with either path, I decided to register for that. I am not certain I will do the dual degree with business, since it is 150 credits and 5 years= more expensive.
So my schdule for the spring 08 semester(beginning in janurary) is:
English Composition 1: on-line course
French 2: tuesdays, 6:30-9:40(usually ends at 9:10)
Intermediate Algebra(108): 2:30-3:55 Tuesdays/thursdays
I finished my work for both my online courses for this fall semester, and my final in french is tomarrow. I think I may have a B/3.0 in life science, but into. to computers and french should both be A's.
I also got my 1st quarter grades for high school:
politcal science: 101%
German 1: 100%
English 12: 98%
Earth Science: 93%
I am a little fustrated over earth science..I would of had a perfect 4.0, but I was one percent off(4.0 starts at 94) so I end up with 3.9 overall, still good.
Still waiting to hear from PITT. I am expecting they will put me in johnstown and then I will have to transfer to the main campus in oakland..but if I get lucky then they will put me in oakland to begin with.
The snow has melted..It has been raining for days. I like the snow gone, but this rain makes the day get darker even faster and is depressing.
