Tuesday

by Inthefastlane45 @ 30/01/2008 - 00.57:13

Well today started my (macro)economics class. It wasn't until 6:30 though.

First I went to my math class from 2:10-3:55..which ended 25 minutes earliar, always nice. I should also mention this is the first time this semester that I didn't have to drive through snow! I was very happy, even though it rained.

Math was uneventful(is it ever exciting?), and afterwords I bought my economics book. Then a 5 minute drive to get something to eat/dinner. Since the classes are roughly two and a half hours apart, it wouldn't make sense to drive the whole way back home(35 minute drive) and then back again.

Afterwords I thought I had a lot of time to waste so I went to target and walked around/browsed.

I then went up to the school to go to this room/hallway I seen last semester during French but never actually went through. I really don't need to explain this(I mean who really wants to read about some hallway?) but I am bored and need to kill some time, so here i go:

my french class was on the sixth floor(I enter on the 5th floor, it's a complex building), and I always thought it was stupid to take an elevator up one floor when the stairs are right beside it. After I walked up the stairs I walked down a short hallway and seen a hallway to the side that had some tables there and usually around 10 or so people sitting, studying. So today since I have time between my classes, I decided to go in and study/do some homework. It works out really great since it is very quiet, and is just a few steps from my class. The library might work too, but it is way on the other side of the building, plus it would probably be louder with more people there.

Economics class went fine. The teacher has horrid reviews on the internet, but he was pretty nice..I am assuming his test/quizes will be difficult). There is only around 13 people in the class, so it is nice, and not crowded at all. He said some opinionated things that I found very annoying, but he is nice, and explained things pretty well.

I seem to always sit in the second row back. I ended up sitting in the front of math, but I prefer the second row back. I guess I don't like to be there right in the professors face, but I don't want to sit in the back because I will probably lose concentration, plus I sometimes wear glasses and probably wouldn't be able to see.

Tomarrow(wed) is the day when I all day to concentrate on assignments. I have no classes in highschool or community college. I have to work on my graduation project(which annoys me immensely..I just want it over with!), english, econ, math, and any other little things that need to be done.

The english professor seems to really focus on the need to write multiple drafts, and even mentioned asking for them in the future, so I figured I better actually write multiple drafts(something I hardly ever do, if at all). I am extremely worried about how my first writing assignment will turn out.

To be creative

by Inthefastlane45 @ 28/01/2008 - 16.31:00

My english(composition) class starts today. It is an online course. I heard the professor is very strict about his set guidlines(font size, line spacing, ect) and I can tell that he is.

The assignment he posted is due in two weeks. It doesn't seem hard..read a short story and then write a paper that sums up the story, and then give a more in-depth paragraph about the plot. I printed out the story and will read it tonight.

In the directions he tells us exactly what each paragraph should be about, and how long the paragraph should be..just about an entire outline for the paper. It makes it seem pretty easy to do.

But I do not like english/writing classes. I feel more confident in math because once you learn how to do a specific problem, you can most likely do well on any other problems similar. But writing takes more creativity...and creative is one of the last things I would consider myself.

Anyway, economics starts tomarrow. I am still pretty dissapointed that I am taking economics instead of the french class. I find economics interesting but I was looking forward to picking up french again.

One year

I completely forgot that the 19th of janurary marked one year of my blog being here at blog.co.uk!

Random things and french music

by Inthefastlane45 @ 25/01/2008 - 12.05:39

Today(just one minute ago) I got my two books for my English(composition) class, that is on-line and starts either monday or tuesday. I am very impressed with the bookstore that mails it, as I just ordered it on wednesday. They are two very small books(mostly filled with tips on writing I believe)..and they cost over $80..even though they seem like you could get them for $5 each in a borders or barns and noble bookstore.

Since they canceled my french class(ugh) and I have to register for economics at last minute(which I hate doing anything at last minute), I will have to buy the book on tuesday after my math class. On tuesday math ends around 4, and economics will start at 6:30..not sure how I will waste this time, but I guess I will just go somewhere in the school and study, then go get some food.

It snowed yesterday when I went to class, which so far makes it 4 out of 4 days it has snowed when I went to school. Driving when snow is on the roads is the worst thing in my opinion. Luckily they roads weren't too bad(I was very surprised).

Math isn't exactly the most exciting subject, so I just try to pay attention and not let myself drift off.

Now for some musique francaise..tecktonik. Which I found on youtube(you can really find anything on there). It is supposed to be pretty popular in France...and according to wikipedia originated in Paris. This video is supposed to some of the best tecktonik dancers...reminds me of crumping from LA..just not as violent lol

Class canceled

by Inthefastlane45 @ 23/01/2008 - 17.16:18

My French 2 class was canceled for the spring semester since not enough people signed up. This means I'll have to register for it for the summer semester, which begins in may/june.

I was pretty annoyed, as it is the class I was looking forward to the most.

But I called today and replaced it with an economics(macroeconomics) class which is at the same time.

The only problem is the professor seems to be a horrible one. I should of checked before registering for the class, but I wanted to do it quickly today before the offices closed at 4. And I didn't want to wait until tomarrow as the class starts on tuesday and I still have to get the book.

So now if everything goes to plan I will be taking pre-calculus, French 2, and Into. to psycology during the summer semester. Take 5 courses the Fall at PITT-johnstown and then hopefuly transfer to the PITT business school in oakland next spring, a year from now.

Sitting still...

by Inthefastlane45 @ 18/01/2008 - 00.56:01

I hate sitting still, I either end up changing how I sit every 5 minutes or else start shaking my leg.

I wasen't sure how I would handle a class for 1 hour and 45 minutes, but it has been pretty good. I don't get overly bored(although math is nowhere near exciting), and it probably helps that I cannot see the clock from where I sit.

I remember in highschool with 45 minute classes, how they felt like they took hours, so it is weird that I can get through more than doubble that now. And especially in math, a subject that just about puts me to sleep.

The roads were a mess today, it was around 32(F) so the snow mixed in with rain and made slush, very dirty. But on the way home I stopped at quiznos and got a sub. Quiznos makes the best sub I have ever tasted. Beats subway by miles.

Class

by Inthefastlane45 @ 16/01/2008 - 12.49:12

Yesterday was my first class for intermediate algebra. Nothing exciting happened. He is pretty good at public speaking, although he talked about 'rules' and how the class was set up for at least an hour. It wouldn't of been that bad if he didn't keep repeating himself over and over. And I don't have to buy a graphing calculator which I am very happy about considering it is $100.

The class seems pretty simple, seven chapter exams, which he will drop your lowest scoring exam from your final grade, and then a final exam.

I also got my voter registration card/certificate today, so now I can vote in november.

Random

by Inthefastlane45 @ 14/01/2008 - 15.16:42

It(of course) snowed today, not much but still we got some snow. Last week it was nearly 70(F) degrees..and now the day before my class starts it drops to 30 and snows(I hate driving in the snow).

My camera/computer hook-up decided to quit working. I am looking into it..and maybe I will un-install the camera software and then re-install..I really have no idea why it quit working.

And my days of spam-free e-mail are gone. Last week I started to get spam on my g-mail account. G-mail was my escape form the thousand(literally) spam I get on yahoo every two weeks. And what makes yahoo worse is that it puts in some radom regular e-mails in the spam, so I must go through them all. G-amil only gives me one spam every other day, so far.

Out of my network of 17..only around 3 people actually update. I don't get why people would sign up and then never log in again?

things and university news

by Inthefastlane45 @ 11/01/2008 - 15.24:16

Tuesday I went and got my book for my Intermediate Algebra class(starts tuesday the 15th). Ended up costing $100 even..even though it is not my money I am spending, $100 is insanity for a book..in my opinion. Anyway, the book isn't so bad..not too much writing in it(I buy used).

Then went to old navy to return a shirt that I bought back on my bithday. For some reason I picked up an XL(I wear medium)..I got the cash for it back though..and used that cash to get a haircut. The woman did a pretty good job..not prefect but pretty good..especially since it only costs $10.

Then I went to mcdonolds to slowly kill myself/get some food(give me a break, I only go there once or twice a month). It was very good.

Gas has gone up to $3.19 which I know is probably very cheap to a lot of people here, however just a couple months ago it was well below $3. I decided to wait and get gas until next week when my class starts...since oil has gone back below $100 it should go down a little bit.

Anyway, onto the university news. I was infact rejected from PITT oakland(main campus)...but(!)..was accepted into the johnstown campus, just as I expected. I was put into their 'options' program..where the admissions board in oakland decides that if I cannot go into oakland, then if my academic record is good enough they will automatically give me admission to a regional campus..in this case johnstown.

I won't say I wasen't a little bit dissapointed, but PITT is pretty competitive..and I am still ofically a 'PITT' student, just not the main campus.

But..it may end up being a good thing for me..i'll explain:

PITT oakland has many schools within it..arts and sciences(humanities, natural sciences, almost everything else), eingeering, business, and nursing. When I applied to the main campus, I applied into the 'arts and sciences' school with plans on doing a dual degree with the business school..which would be 5 years, and I could only do it if I were to get a scholarship.

I was going to do an economics degree(which is in arts and sciences), but figured a degree is business might be better to get a job in the future.

But now, at johnstown if I complete 30 credits(5 required classes and other electives), I can get automatic(woo) transfer admissions into the business school at PITT main. As long as I keep a 3.0+ GPA.

So now, I can get a degree in business, not needing(but still wanting) a scholarship. I won't be able to get a degree in economics..but I will still be taking some econ. classes..and will still be able to take my language classes(very important to me). I will also be able to get an international business certificate, and a western european certificate.

And thanks to the classes I've been taking at community college, I may only have to stay at johnstown for 1 semester, two at most.

Now I just have to eventually choose a major..either accounting(I can rule this out), finance, management, and marketing( don't think I will choose this either).
